What happened in testing ?When we rolled out our car on a cold October morning at MIRA (Motor Industries Research Association) we expected some phenomenal results. We were stunned! Running at only 1.4 Bar boost (80% power), our Ford RS 200 Evolution Ultra-Lightweight accelerated from 0-140 mph within 200 yards....in only 6 seconds. That's quicker than an F1 car! Whilst outright acceleration is only part of the package necessary to win Pikes Peak and Queenstown, I think we can confidently predict that nothing will touch us on the straights! In the coming months Stig will be putting the car through its paces in the other areas necessary to perform to its maximum potential during both hill-climbs and he can't wait to run at full power!! Facts and FiguresVenue .. MIRA Date ..21st October 1998 Weather .Early rain, turning fine. Power - 680 b.h.p. Torque - 480 ft lbs Fully laden weight - 920 kgs Power to weight - 740 bhp/tonne Maximum Speed - 140 mph @ 8200 rpm Performance 0 - 140 mph in 6 seconds (And we have another 100 bhp to come !) The car was timed to the rev limiter in 5th gear, and the maximum speed calculated from gearing and tyre diameter, so times to intermediate speeds were not measured, but expect: 0 - 100 mph in 3-4 seconds 0 - 60 mph in under 2 seconds Average linear acceleration is greater than 1g. Our car reaches 200 yards quicker than a stone dropped over a cliff! |
