31st May 2002 - The Mach 2 team, with it's operational base in Manitou
Springs, at the base of Pikes Peak, started a week of testing prior to it's
attempt on the hill record. Initial shakedown testing was completed at the
Pueblo Motor Speedway and with the weather reaching record temperatures, Stig
Blomqvist completed several early morning runs on the bottom half of Pikes Peak
later in the same week. Testing prior to the actual race is limited to one half
of the mountain only. Minor technical problems were ironed out and altitude
mapping was completed successfully. Several tyre testing runs were then
completed. Team manager Alan Greenwood commented "Testing was completed
with far less problems that were expected, this being our first run at altitude.
I am pleased to report that the Arrow Generics RS200 is on course to give a good
showing at the race on 29th June."
Initial times on the first half of the hill showed that Stig was already on the
pace of the record time. The team returns to Colorado in mid June to continue
it's preparations.
